Local Exhaust Ventilation Regulation

Local Exhaust Ventilation(LEV) assessment will involve a complete inspection and examination of your extraction equipment, such as the ducts, the hoods and the filters. It will also involve a measurement of the technical performance and an assessment of the working condition of the LEV system. It must be conducted by Industrial Hygiene Technician 2 (IHT 2) competent person.

Only a registered hygiene technician is authorised to perform this Local Exhaust Ventilation Assessment on a yearly basis. However, on a monthly basis, your company is permitted to perform a broad self-inspection on the state of the system.

Objectives

To analyse, test, and assess how well local exhaust ventilation systems work.
To record the LEV's performance and conditions for future evaluation and record-keeping.
To Fulfil the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health (Use and Standards of Exposure of Chemicals Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2000.
After construction and installation, the LEV design must be examined to ensure that it complies with the approved standard and has been tested by a licenced professional engineer.
To suggest improvements or solutions where necessary for the LEV system that needed corrections.
