Chemical Health Risk Assessment
Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) Is an assessment that has to be conducted by the employer arising from the use, handling, storage or transportation of chemicals hazardous to health in their workplace
Chemical Health Risk Assessment will generally examine how chemicals that are harmful to health are managed, including the chemical registry, MSDS/CSDS, usage, frequency, hazard rating, etc. According to OSH – USECHH Regulations 2013, a registered hygiene technician is required to conduct a Chemical Health Risk Assessment every five years. After completing this task, the assessor for Chemical Health Risk Assessment would outline his conclusions and recommendations, where clients would be counselled on their next course of action.
The following objectives of the Chemical Health Risk Assessment:
- To determine the health risks posed by each chemical used, stored, handled, or transported in the workplace.
- To determine whether current control measures are adequate
- To suggest additional appropriate controls to prevent or lower risk.
- To assess the level of exposure of workers to the potentially harmful chemical, whether through ingestion, skin absorption, or inhalation
- To sum up the importance of the health risk caused by the potentially harmful chemicals
